Roadmap to Commercialization

The START Roadmaps provide a clear pathway for advancing thermoelectric technologies towards market deployment by 2030.

Instead of a single roadmap, the approach is structured into six interconnected roadmaps, each covering a key step of the value chain—from raw materials to applications and end-of-life, including broader external factors.

The START roadmap outlines the development of a fully integrated START European-based value chain for tetrahedrite-based TEGs between 2026 and 2030. The objective is to transition from TRL-4 to TRL-9 in this timeframe, achieving not only product/service commercialization, but the creation of a vertically integrated, circular, digitally enabled thermoelectric ecosystem, while establishing the following principles:

  • Secure EU-based raw material sourcing for materials security;
  • Automated and digitalised industrial-scale processing and production;
  • Industry 4.0–compliant manufacturing;
  • Competitive pricing and viable business models;
  • Circularity and Structural advantage;
  • Regulatory and policy alignment within EU frameworks.
